The effect of thermo-mechanical densification on machining properties of massive wooden material

Abstract (EN)

The study's main objectives are to determine the effect of thermo-mechanical densification on the processing properties of solid wood material and to determine the optimum cutting parameters to achieve the best surface quality in the machining properties of the wood material that is densified at different rates. In this context, black poplar (Populus nigra L), which is widely grown in our country, was chosen as the experimental material. The wood materials, which were compressed and densified at 0%, 20% and 40% ratios, were processed using two different cutters at 1000, 1500 and 2000 mm/min feed speeds, 12000, 15000, 18000 rpm, on the CNC machine. Surface roughness values (Ra and Rz) of the obtained surfaces were determined. The lowest surface roughness on the processed surfaces was obtained in samples densified by compression of 40%. The lowest surface roughness values were obtained from number 1 cutter, 1000 mm / min feed rate and 18000 rpm at 40% compression ratio.
