Abstract (EN)

Aim and Background: Testicular cancers (Tca) are the most common solid malignant tumors in young men aged between 20 and 35 years. Despite incidence of Tca increased, it's mortality rate decreased and prognosis improved, in recent years. In present study, we aimed to evaluate general characteristics, treatment, prognosis and survival status of patients with Tca. Materials and Methods: Patients diagnosed with and treated for Tca in Okmeydanı Training and Research Hospital and Abant Izzet Baysal University Hospital between January 2004 and December 2014. Retrospectively, patient data were obtained from computerized database and medical record system of the institutions. Results: We included 332 of 343 Tca patients to present study whom data were accessible. Germ cell tumor was observed in 324 patients (96.7%), while 4 (1.2%) had sex cord stromal tumors, and another 4 (1.2%) had non-specific stromal tumors. Testicular germ cell tumors of 324 patients diagnosed 150 seminomatous (46.3%), 174 nonseminomatous (53.7%) was histologic subtype. The median age of patients was 32 years (min.18-max.81). Median age of seminoma and nonseminoma patients were 36 years (min.18-maks.77), and 28 years (min.18-maks.81), respectively. Age at diagnosis was significantly different between groups (p<0.05). One hundred and ten (73.3%) seminoma patients were at stage I and 77 (44.3%) nonseminoma patients were at stage I. Stage at diagnosis was significantly different between groups (p <0.001). One hundred and forty seven patients (98%) with seminoma were classified to have good prognosis, while 3 (2%) were classified as intermediate prognosis. 149 of nonseminoma patients had good prognosis, 9 (5.2%) had intermediate and 16 (9.2%) had poor prognosis. There was a statistically significant difference between groups according to prognosis (p<0.001). Radiotherapy was treatment of choice in 90 (81.8%) of 110 Stage I seminoma patients, carboplatin chemotherapy was preferred for 11 (10%) and observation was carried out for 7 (6.4%) of them. The median follow up time was 60 months (min.1-maks.178 days). 12 (3.7%) of 324 patients with testicular germ cell tumor were died during follow up. General survival time could not be calculated for insufficient follow-up period. Conclusion: Most patients were diagnosed at early stage and were mostly in good prognosis group in present study. Radiotherapy was preferred more than the literature data as primary adjuvant treatment of Stage I seminomas. The detected survival rate of patients was higher than the data in literatüre. In our country, we consider that the incidence and survival data of patients should be obtained studies with longer follow-up period, more central and participation. Key Words: Testicular cancer, Testicular germ cell tumor, Survival
