Abstract (EN)

Successful titanium diboride (TiB2)-chitosan composite coatings were obtained by electrophoretic deposition method (EPD) with suspensions containing milled and unmilled TiB2 powders with chitosan solution. The effect of process parameters (applied voltage, deposition time and solids concentration) on the morphological, microstructural, thickness and adhesion behavior of composite coatings was investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. The suspension properties and the EPD mechanism of the composites are discussed. Adhesion behavior of coatings is classified according to ASTM D3359-09-B tape test. The results showed that TiB2 powders containing chitosan solution were successfully deposited on the Ti surface with EPD without any cracks. Different amounts of chitosans are thought to have a significant effect on substrate adhesion. It is expected that the homogeneous, porous structure of TiB2-chitosan composites coated by electrophoretic deposition method will be developed and suitable for cell proliferation. It has a high potential as an alternative coating in orthopedic and dental applications.
