Abstract (EN)
The fact that human beings are both spiritual and historical entities necessitates that architects, who shape the spaces in which life unfolds, engage in deep contemplation regarding the whatness of human being. An architect, beyond the physical act of creating spaces, is also obligated to understand the lived experiences of individuals and the context of historical-social realities. The hermeneutic method, developed by Wilhelm Dilthey within the framework of the Human Sciences, serves as a guide for architects in the process of understanding human beings and their spiritual dimensions. Dilthey endeavours to comprehend the individual's inner world by analyzing the lived experiences of human beings within the framework of historical-social realities, along with the manifestations of these experiences. According to Dilthey, hermeneutics enables architects to gain a more profound understanding of the needs of users and their historical-social realities context. The thesis presents insights into how the hermeneutic method can be applied in architectural theory and practice, based on an analysis conducted within the framework of Le Corbusier and Turgut Cansever, who approached the question of the human condition from different perspectives. In this context, the thesis demonstrates the necessity for architects to consider the spiritual and historical dimensions of humanity in their designs and how the hermeneutic method can be utilized in this process. This approach emphasizes that architecture should not only shape the physical environment but also foster the quality of life and social harmony of its inhabitants.
