Özet (EN)
Antibodies developing after Parvovirus B19 infection may trigger autoimmune mechanism activation. Parvovirus B19 infection has been shown to lead to autoantibody formation in a lot of autoimmune diseases. Parvovirus B19 has been investigated as an etiologic factor in a lot of autoimmune diseases. There are case reports about developing type 1 DM after parvovirus B19 infection. Type 1 diabetes mellitus has been thought to develope in a genetic background in exposure to some environmental factors. Viral infections has been described as one of the enviromental factors in the pathogenesis of type 1 DM. The role of Parvovirus B infection as an etiologic factor in type 1 DM as an autoimmune disease has been investigated in our study. The frequency of parvovirus B 19 infection in type 1 DM patients has been investigated in our study. Volunteer type 1 diabetic patients who attended the Endocrinology and Metabolism Outpatient Policlinic and the Internal Medicine Policlinic between April 2016 and September 2016 at the Dumlupınar University Kütahya Evliya Çelebi Education and Training Hospital and who undersigned the informed consent were enrolled. 32 type 1 diabetic patients and 30 healthy volunteers were recruited as healthy volunteers (control group). Blood samples were taken during the routine blood sampling procedure without any additional invasive procedure. Blood samples were stored at -20 0C until measuring at the microbiology department. Parvovirus B19 Ig M and Ig G levels were measured manually with the ELISA method. Parvovirus B19 IgG levels have been found to be higher among type 1 diabetic patients than the control group in this study. Parvovirus B19 Ig M levels were not different statistically.
