Determining the factors associated with hypoglycemic confidence levels of type 2 diabetes individuals

Objective: This study was conducted to determine the factors associated with hypoglycemic confidence level of individuals with type 2 diabetes. Method: The research is of descriptive and relational type and was conducted with 175 individuals with type 2 diabetes who meet the inclusion criteria. Introductory Features Questionnaire, Hypoglycemic Confidence Scale, Hypoglycemia Fear Scale, Diabetes Empowerment Scale and Hypoglycemia Awareness Questionnaire prepared in line with the literature were used in the study. Descriptive statistics (number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, minimum and maximum), Mann Whitney-U, Kruskal Wallis, Spearman Correlation, were used in the evaluation of the data. Results: The hypoglycemic confidence scale mean score (2,16 ± 0,71) of individuals with type 2 diabetes included in our study and their sociodemographic history (education, age, economic status, etc.), diabetes history (diabetes complication, treatment compliance, etc.), hypoglycemia history (hypoglycemia frequency, hypoglycemia awareness, etc.) It was determined that there is a statistically significant difference between. It was found that there was a negative correlation (r:- 0,53) between the mean score of the hypoglycemic confidence scale and the fear of hypoglycemia, and a positive correlation (r: 0,42) with the average score of the diabetes empowerment scale. Conclusion: In the management of hypoglycemia, it is important to focus on the hypoglycemic confidence level and related factors. In order to increase the hypoglycemic confidence level of the diabetic individual, it is necessary to empowerment the hypoglycemia management, reduce the frequency of hypoglycemia and ensure hypoglycemia awareness.
