Abstract (EN)
This study is carried out in Kahramanmaraş Necip Fazıl City Hospital, dates between February 2019 and April 2019, to investigate the metabolic control levels of the 121 patients by using diabetes empowerment scale. "Diabetes Empowerment Scale" was performed to determine awareness and compatibility of the patients. This scale was developed in USA and it was translated to Turkish in 2012. Also a questionaire was carried out to the patients by talking face to face. Demograpic data, nutrition habbits, frequency of meals were inquired and antropometric measurements and fasting blood glucose levels were recorded. In study, mean age of men and women was 47,1 ±18,3 and 47,6 ±18,1 respectively (p>0,05). 62.0 percent of the study popullation were having at least one meal outside the house.Mean BMI (body mass index) was calculated 26,8 ±4,0 and 27,8 ±5,5 for men and women respectively. Over weight and obese ratio was %50,0 and %16,0 in men, %28,2 ve %36,6 in women. Female patients ratio in obese clasification is more than male patients (p<0.05).Women ratio is more than men in risky high waist circumference group. Mean fasting blood glucose level was 225,1 ±74,1 mg/dl and there is no sexual difference between male and female (p>0,05). Also there in no sexual difference in "Diabetes Empowerment Scale" scores. There was no patient in the good point-class according to the scale (105-140 point). 92% of men and 83.1% of women are in the middle point-class (67-104 point). According to the blood tests HbA1c levels were in midrange or worse most of the patients (86.0%), triglyceride levels were normal or slightly elevated mostly (80.2%), total cholesterol levels were normal or slightly elevated mostly (93.4%), HDL levels were below normal limits in 86.8 percent, LDL level were in normal limits in 83.5 percent of the patients. Total score in "Diabetes Empowerment Scale" was found to be correlated with age, BMI, waist circumference, fasting blood glucose level, HbA1c level, diabetic age, triglyceride level, total cholesterol level, LDL and HDL level. As a result in this diabetic population, diet coherence can be increased with increasing the awareness by help of a specialist. This scale can be used treatment planning and reorganising of the diabetic individuals. Key words: diabetes, diet compliance, diabetes empowerment scale, metobolic control, antropometric measurement
