Abstract (EN)

It has been reported that individuals with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) have 2 or 3 times decreased sensorimotor signaling compared to healthy individuals. In this study conducted with individuals with type 2 DM, it has been reported that proprioception is impaired in individuals with type 2 DM. Neuromuscular control changes are observed in the shoulder muscles due to proprioceptive sensory involvement. The individual cannot achieve proper muscle activation without proper neuromuscular coordination. Voluntary contraction of active joint stabilizers is very important for shoulder stabilization and proper mobilization. Thus, it is seen that there is a relationship between DM and shoulder proprioception. To our work; 60 voluntary type 2 diabetic individuals, 38 of whom were females and 22 of whom were males, between the ages of 18-65 were included. Individuals with type 2 diabetes living in Adıyaman were included in the study conducted at Hasan Kalyoncu University Institute of Graduate Education the study consists of two groups. Group I (n = 30): It forms the study group. The individuals strengthened the muscles in the shoulder, arm and hand area for 8 weeks, 3 days a week, 2 sets and 12 repetitions. Group II (n = 30): It constitutes the control group. Necessary evaluations were made without giving exercise to individuals. These evaluations were applied to the individuals after the exercises in the study group ended. In this study; Exercises were applied to the individuals in the study group 3 days a week. Once a week, blood glucose values were checked before and after exercise. At the same time, significant differences and some similarities were found in this study in which we evaluated hand and finger strength, pain intensity and muscle strength. In our study, it was observed that there was a significant decrease in the amount of deviation in the group exercising in the sense of position. (p <0.05) It was observed that there was a significant increase in hand, finger and muscle strength. A significant decrease was observed in the assessments of pain. This result has shown that strengthening exercises have a positive effect on shoulder position sensation in individuals with type 2 diabetes.
