Abstract (EN)

Cardiovascular diseases are one of leading causes of death at present. Therelationship of stres and cardiovascular diseases is known for a long time.Personality is the major determinant of stres. Previous studies underscore type Abehaviour which is characterized by passion, competiveness, aggression andunpatientness. Present studies support the strong relationship between type Dpersonality and cardiovascular heart disease. Type D personality is characterizedby leaning towards experiencing negative emotions and inhibiting these emotionsby escaping from social relations.In this study, it is aimed to find out type D personality prevelance incardiovascular heart disease patients, to define the realtionship between type Dpersonality and depression, anxiety, risk of committing suicide and perceivedsocial support and to compare these with healty controls.Patients group consisted of 100 people who are between 18-65 years old,diagnosed to have cardiovascular disease and that applied Gazi University Facultyof Medicine Cardiology Department. DS-14, HAD-Ö, MSPSS and SADPERSONS scales were applied. Control group consisted of 77 hospital worker ora relative who are between 18-65 years old and who had no known medicalillness. DS -14, HAD-Ö, MSPSS and SAD PERSONS were applied to controlgroup.Type D personality prevelance was found to be 49 % for patients group and24,7 % for the control group. There was a significant relationship between type Dpersonality and depression, anxiety, risk of committing suicide and perceivedsocial support. The results support that Type D personality has a higherprevelance in cardiovascular heart disease patients than controls and also that typeD personality is related to emotional and social difficulties.
