Ottoman period carpet and flat weavings in Tokat Kent Museum

Ottoman Period Carpets and Plain Weaves in Tokat City Museum has been determined as the thesis subject. The most important factor in determining our thesis is the scarcity of studies on carpets and plain weaves. 61 works with different types and functions such as carpets, tulus, prayer rugs, kilims, wing kilims, light rugs, sacks, sumac rugs, zili rugs and bags in the museum were introduced and evaluated within the framework of the Art History discipline. Our thesis named "Ottoman Period Carpets and Plain Weaves in Tokat City Museum" consists of eight chapters. First chapter includes information about the importance and nature of the research under the titles of the definition of the subject, purpose and scope, study method, limitations, scientific literature about the research province. Second chapter includes extensive information about the geographical location of the province of Tokat, the history of the province of Tokat and the collections of the Tokat City Museum. In the third chapter, in the section titled Overview of Traditional Turkish Carpet and Plain Weaving Art, the adventure of the first carpet and plain weaving in history from the weaving stage to the present, its origin, the names of carpets and plain weaves are explained. In the fourth chapter, the technical features of plain weaves and pile weaves, weaving techniques and stages, knot types used in carpets, dyes used in carpets and plain weaves, and carpet and plain weaves are classified according to their areas of use. In the fifth chapter, motifs used in Turkish carpets and plain weaves are explained together with their history. Sixth chapter includes the catalogue part of our thesis titled "Ottoman Period Carpets and Plain Weaves in Tokat City Museum". In this chapter, carpets, tulus, prayer rugs, kilims, wing kilims, light rugs, sumac rugs, zili rugs, saddlebags, sacks and bags are divided into sub-headings according to their technique and function. Photographs of the works are included in this chapter. In the seventh chapter, evaluation and comparison were made, the works we examined were evaluated in terms of material, technique and color, the motifs and compositions of carpets and plain weaves were evaluated by comparing them with the motifs and compositions used in carpets and plain woven mats in other provinces of Anatolia. In the eighth chapter, the results and sources are included, and in the conclusion chapter, thoughts on the place and importance of the works evaluated and compared in Turkish art are given.
