Relationship between toxic leadership behaviors and employees' burnout levels

Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this research is to determine the relationship between toxic leadership behaviors of managers and burnout levels of employees according to the opinions of employees in the IT sector. The research model is the correlational survey design. The universe of the study consists of employees between the ages of 18-64 working in the IT sector in Istanbul. The sample of the study consists of 237 employees determined by proportional stratified sampling method. Personal Information Form, Toxic Leadership Scale and Burnout Scale were used as data collection tools in the study. According to the results obtained in the study, it was determined that there are significant relationships between toxic leadership behaviors and burnout levels according to the opinions of the employees and that toxic leadership behaviors of managers explain the burnout levels of the employees. According to the findings obtained in the study; The emotional exhaustion level of employees in the IT sector was determined as low, insensitivity level was very low and personal achievement levels were above average. While it was determined that the perception levels of married employees regarding the ingratitude, selfishness and self-interest of their managers were lower than single employees, it was determined that there were no differences according to other variables. It was determined in the study that as the ages of the employees increased, the perception levels of managers regarding toxic leadership behaviors decreased. It was determined that the emotional exhaustion and insensitivity levels of married employees were lower than single employees and their individual achievement perception levels were higher. In the study, it was determined that as the years of work increased, the level of burnout decreased and the perception of personal success increased. In the study, it was determined that the burnout levels of the employees did not differ according to their gender and income. Keywords: Manager, Leadership, Toxic Leadership, Work Life, Burnout
