Abstract (EN)
Even though comics are qualified as the 9th art, they still do not receive the respect they deserve in the academic field. While there are museums based solely on comics in Brussels, London, New York, San Francisco, Noordwijk, and many other capitals, it is observed that this genre is still not considered equal to different branches of art in artistic circles. If the roots of the comic book are researched, it will be realized that it has been performed for a very long time, and thus it will be understood that it is not a product of popular culture. Just as everything whose history is unknown is doomed to disappear, it will inevitably be inevitable for comics to be seen as an empty structure if their history is ignored. For this reason, this study aims to examine the roots of the comic book, which was born as a result of the printmaking of two print artists of great importance in history, William Hogarth and Rodolphe Töpffer. The definitions of comic books made by modern historians and briefly their modern history were examined. As a result of the synthesis of and as a result of the synthesis of these definitions, the first-edition comic books produced by Hogarth and Töpffer were mentioned. In addition, the first copyright of visual arts was obtained thanks to William Hogarth and the physiognomy readings brought to art history by Töpffer were mentioned. As a result of all these findings, it has been determined that these two print artists moved the history of art irreversibly forward.
