The role of quality leadership for total quality management applications and BOTAŞ case

Total Quality Management is the system aims at consistent improvement and development and of which the quality is attributed to every single member of an organization. The main precondition for this process to become feasible and give desirable results is the existence of an effective quality leadership in the organization that this process is applied. The study has importance because of the fact that it presents weaknesses and precautions about TQM process through BOTAŞ application.In the first part of this study, basic information about TQM is presented. In the second part, ?quality leadership? concept is explored and the importance of quality leadership for TQM applications is emphasized. Moreover, at the end of this part necessary steps and workings to form an efficient quality leadership are brought up.In the third part, questionnaire study with 264 personnel of General Directorate of BOTAŞ and the results of this study are presented. With this study, necessity of quality leadership, existence of efficient quality leadership in BOTAŞ, whether results of TQM applications in BOTAŞ is successful or not and basic factors of failure of TQM applications are introduced. Besides, basic hypothesizes and hypothesizes which tests relationships are examined through chi-square, t-test, one way ANOVA test and frequency diagnosis.In the final part of this study, problems which are determined as a result of questionnaire study and suggestions of researcher for these problems are presented.Key Words: Total Quality Management, Quality Leadership and BOTAŞ
