Abstract (EN)
This study focuses on analyzing modern Arabic theatre as a means of social criticism and its functionality in this regard. Within this scope, the research presents the historical background of modern Arabic theatre, particularly its emergence and development. Countries such as Egypt, Lebanon, Algeria, and Syria are considered key contributors to the evolution of Arabic theatre, and selected plays from these regions have been examined. The social criticisms expressed in these plays were identified and classified under various topics through the lens of different sociological concepts. As a result, it has been concluded that theatre in modern Arabic literature serves as an effective and functional medium for conveying social critique on a wide range of issues. Moreover, it is observed that Arabic theatre, with its artistic richness, holds a significant position in voicing the problems of both the Arab world and other societies.
