Women's poverty in the context of gender inequality: The case of Azerbaijan

In this study, women's poverty is addressed within the framework of gender inequality, with the analysis process carried out using the example of Azerbaijan. A qualitative method was adopted, utilizing semi-structured interview techniques and document analysis during the data collection process. Through semi-structured interviews, the individual experiences of women regarding poverty and their proposed solutions were examined in depth. Within the scope of document analysis, national and international reports, statistics, and academic studies were evaluated using descriptive analysis. Based on the findings, the global status of poverty and women's poverty was initially reviewed. Subsequently, socioeconomic indicators defined as determinants were selected and analyzed with the help of figures and tables within the context of the status of women in Azerbaijan. The findings of this study reveal that women in Azerbaijan are in a disadvantaged position compared to men in the workforce, education, politics, and social life. It was observed that the societal norms and patterns regarding women's roles in employment and occupational selection still persist. Moreover, the inequalities in employment, education, and social life negatively affect women's living conditions and deepen poverty. Participants suggested increasing government support, enhancing social awareness, and improving educational opportunities as solutions. The findings demonstrate that women's poverty is not merely an economic issue but also a multidimensional problem requiring social transformation.
