Özet (EN)

While it is not possible to draw sharp boundaries, generally accepted, every living being experiences stages such as infancy, childhood, adulthood, and old age. Aging can be described as a phase in which psychological, physical, economic, and social changes occur. Advances in diagnosis, treatment, and preventive healthcare, as well as improvements in living conditions, have led to an increase in average human lifespan. The extended lifespan has led to an increase in the elderly population relative to the total population and a profound change in the demographic structure of societies. Today, it is observed that all developed and developing societies are aging rapidly. When considering our country, it is seen that people are aging much faster than many European countries. Another important change in our age is the rapid development of digital technologies and their impact on all areas of our lives. While digital technologies are easily used and even turned into a fun activity by the younger generation known as digital natives, they can lead to inequalities for older individuals referred to as digital immigrants. Access to digital devices, the level and purpose of digital technology use, and the digital divide vary depending on socio-economic and demographic factors, as well as age and gender. While social inequalities lead to digital inequalities, digital inequalities can can exacerbate social inequalities deeper. This situation is particularly important for women who are in a disadvantaged position due to societal gender norms. In this context, it is aimed to investigate the experiences and problems of elderly people regarding digital technologies from a gender perspective. In this context, the aim was to investigate the experiences of elderly individuals and the problems they face regarding digital technologies from a gender perspective. This research conducted in the Bornova district of Izmir province targeted individuals aged 60 and above. Various factors influencing the use of digital technologies by these individuals were considered to predict the experiences and problems of elderly individuals as subjects of social structure.
