Gender-based differentiation of social structure and violence patterns: the example of Acisu village

Depending on the social structure, violence and gender formations differ in all societies, and an observable relationship between social structure, violence and gender has been broken, especially in social structures such as small settlements and rural areas. The subject of progress in this direction is to understand how social structure and patterns of violence differ on the basis of gender in rural structures. The aim of the study is to examine rural social growth and reveal how patterns of violence in social violence differ between genders. For this purpose, the comprehensive study adopts Robert Merton's "tension theory" approach and focuses on what is played between the social goal and the process of achieving this goal. The research is an applied field study and primarily a conceptual and theoretical literature review was conducted. In the method part of the research, industrial mixed method was used together with qualitative and good research methods. Explanatory research type, one of the research types used in social sciences, was adopted. Within the scope of the quantitative data research method, a screening (survey) research was conducted and the survey technique was used. Individuals residing in Acısu Village of Akçaabat district of Trabzon were determined as the population. A face-to-face survey was applied to 211 people systematically selected by probability sampling method from the population of 575 over the age of 18, obtained from the headman's office. In the qualitative research part, in-depth interviews were conducted with 15 people selected by purposeful sampling method. The collected quantitative data were analyzed with the SPSS analysis program and the qualitative data with the descriptive analysis technique with the artificial intelligence-supported NVIVO program. The main finding obtained as a result of the research is that the imbalances in the social structure significantly affect the patterns of violence between genders in Acısu Village. In attitudes and evaluations, the discontinuities in achieving the goals in the social structure, especially men's economic stress and social prestige disruptions, and women's traditional gender roles and the "pressure" element reveal violence and gender differentiation. In this regard, the thesis makes significant contributions to the literature in understanding how the effects of social structure on violence vary between genders.
