Abstract (EN)
The aim of the research titled "Üsküdar Palace in the Context of Topography and Architectural Features" is to find out whether Üsküdar Palace and Kavak Palace are the same palaces, while actually revealing which places this palace or palace complex contains. When it was built and where it was located and how it was named are some of the other focal points of the research. Üsküdar Palace is considered to be the largest palace in Istanbul, the capital of the Ottoman Empire, after the Topkapı Palace, which was built in the classical period. It is thought to resemble Topkapı Palace and the inside of the city walls in terms of its shape and plan. The main reasons why this subject needs to be studied is that the information in the literature is wrong, incomplete, insufficient and more complex. Studies on the subject also focus on whether Kavak Palace and Üsküdar Palace are the same palaces. Solving this problem, examining the Üsküdar Palace in terms of other structures in this palace, architectural development and topography will contribute to many disciplines, especially in areas such as architectural history, art history and urban history. On the other hand, it is also important in terms of being the largest and only structure built in Istanbul after Topkapı Palace in Classical Period Ottoman architecture. This topic, which will enable us to obtain information about our traditional palace architecture, will also answer many questions about Üsküdar Palace. The above-mentioned questions have been answered through resources such as documents, maps, engravings and period chronicles in the Ottoman Archives.
