Abstract (EN)

ABSTRACT The Investigation of Predicting Mortality and Morbidity in Patients Admitted to Intensive Care Unit with Thoracic Trauma Using Selected Biomarkers and Parameters This prospective study aimed to predict morbidity and mortality after thoracic trauma in intensive care unit evaluated clinical and biochemical data of 50 intensive care unit patients. The research examined demographic factors such as gender, age, and smoking status, as well as trauma scoring systems like ISS and RTS and oxygenation parameters including the ROX index, PaO₂/FiO₂ ratio and FiO₂. Our findings underscore the critical role of the ROX index as an indicator in the relationship with mortality rates. Low ROX index values have been associated with high mortality risk, offering a different perspective on the clinical application of the ROX index. Trauma scoring systems have also been found to be effective in predicting mortality. In addition, critical information was also provided by scoring systems that are not specific to trauma but are used in intensive care practice, such as APACHE II and SOFA, which are used to assess the general health status of patients and the risk of organ failure. Another particularly noteworthy finding was the change in surfactant D levels. In our study, surfactant D showed a significant increase from day 1 to day 7 in patients who died. This finding suggests that the change in surfactant D levels over time may be a potential indicator for mortality prediction in trauma patients.. These results suggest that more comprehensive monitoring of surfactant D levels in thoracic trauma patients may be beneficial. In conclusion, this study highlights the value of biochemical and clinical indicators that can be used to predict mortality and morbidity in intensive care patients after thoracic trauma. Effective use of parameters such as ROX index, trauma scores, Surfactant-D levels and other scoring systems used in intensive care practice in clinical decision-making processes may contribute to the optimization of patient management strategies.
