Implementation of web-based distance learning in medical education: Anatomy lesson example

Today, long distance learning applications are implemented in lots of educational fields and their number proves to be constant increase. Considering the contents and duration of medicine education, it is rather long and painstaking process. From now on, doing studies regarding long distance learning in also medicine education field, is started to be a necessity. Our study constitutes an importance from the either the range of the content or duration of the application out of few number of examples in this field point of view. In this study, the content, used in theoretical education of IV. Committee, given to KTU Faculty of Medicine II. term students, is transferred to the distance learning site prepared by the researcher. Site content is obtained from anatomy lecture. The most important difference from similar studies is, the inclusion of interactive applications parallel to learning steps taking place in Bloom taxonomy besides standard lecture materials like presentation, video? constituting the lecture content related to learning target. Out of 227 KTU Faculty of Medicine II. Term students, 93 are desired to participate voluntarily to the long distance learning site which is prepared. Out of the volunteers, 59 used the site as a help resource. End of the committee quantitative and qualitative evaluations are performed. As an evaluation criterion, 57 - sections of ?Web Based Education Material Evaluation Criterion? whose validity and reliability studies are performed, is employed. Moreover, statistical analyze of the exam results after the committee of the students pursuing normal education in addition using long distance learning site we prepared, and the results after the end of the committee of the students pursuing just normal regular education, is also performed. Following, a meaningful difference between site using and student lecture success could not be found.
