Abstract (EN)
In this study, we aimed to investigate the satisfaction of the undergraduate students with flipped classroom model practice, and analyzed whether the flipped classroom model could be used in clinical education, based on the experience of clinical education. This study was performed in phase 5 clinical trainings in Otorhinolaryngology Department, in Pamukkale University Medical Faculty, in the academic year 2014-2015. In this program, we aimed students to contact with the patients more, feel themselves as physicians, and learn in the clinical routine health care by making more practice, instead of long classes in the classroom. The study population consisted of 127 students that had clinical training in phase 5. A survey was used to collect data in order to determine satisfaction and experiences of the students in the clinical training period. In addition, a qualitative analysis was performed by taking the written feedbacks of the students at the end of the training period into account. In this study, we analyzed satisfaction and experiences of the students about "flipped classroom model" in a clinical training program, using a survey and qualitative data. The results indicated that the students were very satisfied with "flipped classroom" practice, and recommended its use in clinical trainings of other departments. The students described the clinical training as a very "efficient" period. They could make upper level cognitive practices in Bloom taxonomy such as practice, analysis, and evaluation, under the guidance of the academicians. Instead of long hours in the classrooms, they had a longer clinical training period under the supervision of the academicians. They met more patients compared to clinical trainings in other departments, and could make more practice. On the other hand, they had a better student-trainer communication, similar to a master-apprentice relationship. In conclusion, "flipped classroom model" can be used successfully in clinical education with an expedient program.
