Abstract (EN)
Objective: Objective: the functions of smart phones are evolving every day. The frequency of use of smart mobile phones is also increasing in our country and in the world. As a result of this, the concept of smart mobile phone addiction as a type of behavioural addiction has been brought up along with the occurrence of addiction symptoms in some people. Our aim in this study is to determine the relationship between smartphone addiction and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, depression and sleep quality in Hatay Mustafa Kemal University School of Medicine students. Method: We included 200 students from Mustafa Kemal University Faculty of Medicine who had smart mobile phones. The sociodemographic data form, smartphone addiction scale, adult attention deficit hyperactivity scale, beck depression inventory and pittsburgh sleep quality index were applied to all participants. The data were evaluated in percentile and statistically. Results: The average age of the participants in the study was 23.26±2.22 and 57,5% of the participants had their first phone number in the 15-20 age range. 67.5% were using the phone for internet access. Of these, 73,0% were for social networking. Mean difference was found in BDİ scores in women compared to men (p= 0.047). According to the SAS, 32% of respondents were addicted. According to PSQI, sleep quality was poor at 51,5%. There was no significant difference in BDİ, ASRS and PSQI scores between the dependent group and the non-dependent group according to SAS. ASRS scores were significantly higher in those with ADHD than in those without (p= 0.036, p= 0.05). ASRS and PSQI were significantly higher in those with depression than those without (p= 0.001, p< 0.001). ASRs and BDI scores were significantly higher in those with poor sleep quality than those without (p= 0.001, p< 0.001). There was a slight positive correlation between ASRS and SAS, moderate positive correlation between ASRS and BDİ and PSQI, moderate positive correlation between BDİ and PSQI. Conclusion: We found no statistically significant difference between depression, ADHD and sleep quality between those with smartphone addiction and those without.
