In the history of Medicine, with the use of music as a therapy tool, new fields of threatment were born. This method, applied by various processes throughout civilizations, played an important role, especially in thetreatment of mental illnesses. In this thesis, we studied the historical process of music therapy and application forms of these methods with musical instruments. The birth of this therapy tool which comes by devoloping from the past to present is explained via dârüşşifâ. This heritage moved fromTurks to Ottoman, was tried to be applied in the bestway. Besides, Dârüşşifâ of Ottoman which have social state vision was a home for homeless mentally ill people and never demanded Money from them for this service. Our study consists of four parts. In the first part of the study, we focused on concepts and terminology and started by explaining the meaning of the name "Bîmarhâne". After giving detailed information about the name of bîmarhâne we focused on the definition sassociated with bîmarhâne. In the second part of the study, by searching the positive and negative effects of music on the human spirit, we tried to explain what these effects are. More over we didn't forget about our physicians who took part in the history of medicine with their study and tried to give informations about their studies. In the third part of our study, we searched if there are studies of music therapy in Turks, in Europe and in the İslam Civilization and tried to vary our studies by giving examples. Then we focused our study on Dârüşşifâs given music therapy treatment. In the last part of thestudy, we concen trated on Sulaymaniyah, the establishment, the architecture, mentally ill people, the operation and the management… Briefly, in the light of archive documents we tried to find answers to such questions: Who did the dârüşşifâ of Sulaymaniah – the dearest of rising age of Ottoman Empire - host and heal?
