Abstract (EN)

Efforts to increase the competitiveness of countries in the global economy are becoming increasingly widespread. With the increase in competition, countries have followed policies to eliminate the differences between regions. With the development of the regions, their export potential will increase and a positive contribution will be made to the economy. The aim of this region-based study is to analyze which sectors will contribute to competitiveness. In our study, the competitiveness analysis of the sectors belonging to the TR81 region, located in the NUTS Level 2 Region, is conducted. Sectors are selected from the ISIC Rev3-Level1 (1 digit) option from the foreign trade content according to provincial and regional classification. Balassa's Revealed Comparative Advantages (RCA) index is used using export data covering the years 2002-2022. In addition, for 2022, a competitiveness analysis of all regions in the NUTS Level 2 (26 sub-regions) region is conducted on the basis of the sectors considered. Looking at the analysis results, it can be seen that the competitiveness in the agriculture and forestry sector of the TR81 region was at a medium level in 2005-2006. It is determined that the competitiveness in the fishing sector was strong in 2002, and that it was at a medium level in 2010-2012. It is observed that there was a medium level of competitiveness in the mining and quarrying sector in 2002 and 2008. In the analysis made with NUTS regions, it is determined that TR61, TR62, TR90, TRB2, TRC2 and TRC3 regions have strong competitiveness in the agriculture and forestry sector. In the fishing sector, TR31, TR32 and TR90 regions appear to have strong competitiveness. In the mining and quarrying sector, it has been analyzed that TR51, TR61, TR82, TR90, TRB1, TRB2 and TRC2 regions have strong competitiveness. It has been determined that the regions do not have competitive power in the manufacturing industry sector. In the electricity, gas and water sector, it has been determined that the TRC1 region has a medium level of competitiveness. TR82, TRB2 and TRC3 regions appear to have strong competitiveness in the wholesale and retail trade sector. In the real estate, rental and business activities sector, the TR51 region has strong competitiveness, while in the other social, community and personal services sector, the TR51 region has been found to have medium competitiveness.
