Abstract (EN)

In his theoretical studies, Bourdieu attaches special importance to social classes and the cultural lives of these classes. According to him, every social class has certain accumulations in economic, social and cultural fields. Through these savings, not only financial means but also prestige, status and power are achieved. All savings owned constitute a person's capital. Thus, the more comprehensive the capital the individual has, the higher his place and status in the social arena will be. Comparing the social arena to a playground, Bourdieu argues that the actors in the game can gain advantage by using the capital they have in different areas. It emphasizes that there are different forms of capital as well as different fields such as the field of power, the field of science, and the intellectual field. Bourdieu defined three types of capital in his studies: economic capital, social capital and cultural capital. This field research, based on Bourdieu's analysis of the cultural mechanisms of the middle class, examines the underlying reasons why families direct their children to art courses in addition to the art education given at school. Since taste is shaped at an early age, these courses serve an important and additional pedagogical function in the formation of biography. This thesis is an example of qualitative research. It includes middle-class parents residing in Trabzon who send their children to art courses and have sent them in the last five years. Semi-structured interview technique was used and prepared questions were asked to the interviewees. In the study, Bourdieu's concepts were first emphasized, and then the findings were explained and the results were discussed. Keywords: Cultural Capital, Art Education, Habitus
