Political life in Trabzon between 1920-1950

Trabzon made extremely important contributions to National Struggle in terms of both military and politically. However, Comittee of Union and Progress in this period was a major element of Trabzon and strong opposition from a section of Trabzon, gave rise to the opposition to stand out as a place. The ensemble, located across the Unionists, moved to the forefront in Trabzon after being purged and became a defining element in politics. Reforms seamlessly placed in Trabzon and single-party administration was enrooted. Party inspectors, governors, Turkish House and Community House made a significant contribution to this. CHP has established a great activity in almost all social formations. On the other hand, many people from opposition were solved. In the last period of Atatürk and afterwards, National Struggle-era resentments and former dissidents were included in the system. Using politics for expedience was the early determinants of politics in single party period. Altough Trabzon was one of the leading cities of Black Sea, it is diffucult to say that it got the importance and attention it deserved in terms of economic and social development. Multi-party system was introduced in a painful process in Trabzon. It was thought that building an opposition party is impossible due to the political atmosphere. In this respect, CHP attracted great difficulties on keeping up with the new layout. CHP struggled with inner unrests for a while but soon recovered. Democratic Party failed to show a healthy improvement in Trabzon and this situation has continued until their success. On the other hand, CHP made a major innovation in Trabzon. Thus, Trabzon was one of those rare places that CHP won the selection and an entrenched CHP base was formed in Trabzon. Trabzon is always at the forefront with the politicians it has raised. Indeed, Trabzon?s member of parliaments were involved in many republic governments. Politicians like Hasan Saka and Faik Ahmet Barutçu had been the leading figures of CHP.
