The tradition of magical realism in contemporary Turkish and English literature: A comparative analysis of ?Dear Shameless Death? By Latife Tekin and ?Nights at the Circus? By Angela Carter

In this study, the aspects of the literary genre ?Magical Realism? in both Turkish and English literature is researched and comparatively studied. The central part of the study is represented by two novels that exemplify English and Turkish literature and embodies the genre ?Magic (al) Realism.? One is ?Nights at the Circus? by British author Angela Carter and the other is ?Dear Shameless Death? by Turkish author Latife Tekin. Each work is analyzed in itself and then compared with the other in terms of their common aspects to define the implications of magical realism in Turkish and English literature. Some important common aspects analyzed in detail are; the status of women and existing relationships between women and men in society, the struggle to gain freedom and social acceptance and adaptation, use and abuse of women by men.
