Abstract (EN)

Background and Aim: This study aims to examine the relationship between healthcare professionals' perceptions of medical errors and their levels of malpractice fear. The research also investigates how factors such as academic title and level of knowledge about malpractice influence this relationship. Material and Methods: A quantitative research design was used. The study sample consisted of 382 academic healthcare professionals. Data were collected through a three-part questionnaire including a demographic form, the Medical Error Orientation Scale (THTÖ), and the Malpractice Fear Scale (MKÖ). The reliability and validity of the scales were confirmed through Cronbach's alpha and factor analyses. ANOVA, t-test, Pearson correlation and regression analyses were performed using SPSS. Results: Findings revealed significant differences in medical error perception and malpractice fear based on academic title and malpractice knowledge level. Research assistants were found to have significantly higher fear of malpractice compared to other academic groups. Additionally, those with lower levels of malpractice knowledge exhibited more fear and less favorable perceptions of medical errors. A weak, non-significant negative correlation was found between the total scores of the two scales. Conclusion: The study concludes that fear of malpractice and attitudes toward medical errors vary by professional rank and knowledge level. It is recommended that medical education programs incorporate structured modules on malpractice law and error management to foster awareness and reduce anxiety among professionals.
