Abstract (EN)
Changes and developments in communication technologies have had a big impact on storytelling. Transmedia storytelling, which is strongly connected with convergence, can be described as the creation of an enriched story universe through the distribution of the story parts to different media. While new media tools allow the audience to interact and share information with each other, they also provide a bridge between consumers and production companies, thus making it easier to contribute to the expansion of these story universes. In addition to that, the functions and possibilities of new media are also important in terms of increasing the number of content produces by the fans that emerges as a result of interaction with the story, which plays an important role in increasing fan loyalty. In the first part of the thesis, which consists of three parts, in order to explain the concept of new media; the concepts that prepared the ground for new media were discussed: traditional media, digitalization and Internet. Afterwards, social media that develops with new media have been discussed in detail. The features that distinguish new media from traditional media were also emphasized. In the second part of the thesis, the features of transmedia storytelling were explained with the help of the research made by the academicians who made comprehensive research on transmedia storytelling. In the third part, the "Sherlock" series, in which new media tools play an important role in creating a transmedia story universe, was discussed and as a result of these findings, the relationship between new media and transmedia storytelling was further examined.
