Abstract (EN)
The use of wood as a structure material increases in direct proportion with the developing and changing technology. The production density of timber structures is increasing in developed countries. With the help of technological achievements, solutions can be brought to the problems of timber structure materials and timber structures so timber building production can be made with rich design opportunities. While there are many codes and standards which set out rules to be followed for the design of timber structures in developed countries, this case is different in Turkey. It is seen that the rules regarding the production of timber structures are not specified in detail in the timber structure standards, earthquake codes and building bylaws are not restrictive. Therefore, timber structure production gets difficult, deficiencies and challenges arise during implementation and monitoring processes in Turkey. In this study, TS 647 and European timber structure standard Eurocode 5 are compared in terms of design rules and calculation principles. Literature review is done on the subject and development of the timber structures throughout the history and the current situation in the world and Turkey is referred in the study. General information about structural wood products, timber structure regulations and standards used in the world and Turkey are given. TS 647 and Eurocode 5 are compared in terms of basic principles and rules. The loads to be taken in the calculations according to both standards, the classification of the wooden material and the design principles of the timber structure elements are explained. According to TS 647 and Eurocode 5, the design and dimensioning of timber structure elements are examined. The design of the elements subjected to tension, bending and pressure is given by tables and formulas. The timber structure joining elements used in the connection of building elements and construction of timber structure are mentioned and the design principles and calculation verifications for each joint element are explained with the help of tables and formulas. Numerical examples for verification of timber structure elements and joint elements are solved and the results are compared. An assessment is made for each section and it is concluded that TS 647 should be renewed according to today's conditions.
