Abstract (EN)

The books used in the education of children in the age range 0-6 as preschool age group have an important place in gaining the love of children's books or books in these age groups. The book's cover design will make it more effective for children's books to meet with children and attract the attention of the child, which is an important step in making the child a book habit. Therefore, aesthetic priority should be given to cover design when preparing children's illustrated books and visual design elements and principles should be used consciously when preparing cover design. Requiring the graphic designer to master the elements and principles of visual design, this extends the responsibility of the designer and ensures that the message that needs to be conveyed to the target audience is more healthy. TÜBİTAK publications in this thesis titled Examining the covers of children's rights series over five years of age in terms of Design Principles, TÜBİTAK's Popular Science Publications and children's rights Series books were examined. Children's books illustrated as evren were covered in the research and research was conducted from 362 books on the Popular Science Publications web page of Turkey scientific and Technological Research (TÜBİTAK). TÜBİTAK's Popular Science Publications, children's rights Series books have been covered. The conformity of the cover design of the 10 illustrated children's books of the children's rights series, which consists of the articles of the United Nations Declaration on the rights of the child, to the design principles was examined and thus a sample of the research was created. The research method the qualitative research method and descriptive analysis were created by using Likert-type questions using the evaluation criteria identified in accordance with the data obtained by document review and the data were evaluated with the method based on the data reviewed by the researcher table renditions. An expert evaluation form with 3 different evaluation criteria has been prepared for each article of the design principles in order to evaluate the cover designs of children's books with pre-school pictures according to the design principles. The form that will be sent to experts in determining the basic art education, basic art education competent in the field of higher education institutions and education Faculty of Fine Arts Faculty of Fine Arts departments of faculty members in the views taken, in consultation with experts form the expert evaluation of the scope of validity is provided. In line with the common opinions of four field experts, evaluation criteria consisting of design principles were determined and expert opinion form was created for 10 different books belonging to TÜBİTAK Popular Science Publications children's rights series. The data in these expert opinion forms were used for the use of the obtained data in the findings and comments section. Starting from the definition of design in conceptual frame dimension, definition of design, General History, areas of Use and design principles are discussed; going from general to specific, book cover design and visual elements that make up book cover design are explained. In the study of the compatibility of cover designs with design principles, design principles were investigated from many sources related to the field. Considering only design elements and principles as a whole with the reason that design principles differ in sources; The principles found in the book of visual design elements and principles (PEGEM Akademi publications) were used in research, the contents of the principles were supported by other sources related to the field and added to the research content to be used in the study. Children's books with pictures and the formal features of these books, children's literature and children's books by accessing the sources related to the importance of almost every stage to be considered in illustrated children's books are explained with concepts. The cover designs of 10 illustrated children's books belonging to the children's rights series, which were examined in the expert opinion form with 27 evaluation criteria, were examined according to the numerical data obtained from the evaluations of the field experts. The examination was conducted by 9 faculty members and researchers working in higher education institutions. From experts to book cover designs for each evaluation criterion; I strongly disagree, disagree, partially agree, agree and strongly agree options were presented and experts were asked to choose one or more of these options. According to the evaluation criteria, the evaluation score averages of the experts were taken for each cover design examined and the tables created with the numerical results obtained from this form were explained by the researcher and the data were determined for the results section. The importance of preparing the illustrations (illustrations) in children's books with aesthetic sensitivity, the necessity of these visual elements to carry art value, and the appropriate format for the design principles and elements were emphasized. At this point, it was determined that pre-school teachers and parents should take these criteria into consideration as a result of the findings in the research.
