Tuhfe-i Husami (16th century)a transliteration and examination of language elements

In this study, we dealt with a 16th century text named Tuhfe-i Husami written by Husami or Husamettin Efendi. The word Tuhfe means present and deals always with grammar or dictionary of a language. Here Husamettin Efendi examines Persian Language and aims at teaching this language to Turkish people. After examining the text, we saw that the method and the theme is the first one until his time and during his era. we mean, a poetry-style grammar book is not seen by Husamettin Efendi s time. As far as we learn at the end, he has written the text when he was 12 years old. This is an important point and has caused us to think about it. The second thing that is very important is the method. Instead of writing a usual grammar book, he has chosen poetry to explain the rules and systems of Persian. The date in which it was written is 1549. This is a very important date. As we learn from the texts written in 16th century, the language of Ottoman Empire was affected by Persian and Arabic. As a result of these influences, Turkish has changed a lot. Although the language of Divan Literature was full of Persian and Arabic, the language of Tuhfe-I Husami was very simple and full of Turkish itself. This means that this text is written in time where Turkish was changing and the era was a transitional era. We also discover that the orthographic rules are influenced by Old Anatolian Turkish and Old Uyghur language. The orthography of the text and phonetics of the sound and morphology of the words are written in terms of Old Uyghur, East Anatolian Turkish, Persian and Arabic. This is very important and ought to be uncovered. Thus, in this study after making a transliteration and an edition critique, I examined the elements of the language dealing with phonetics, phonology and morphology of the language of Tuhfe-i Husami. My main goal was to introduce a text written in 16th century and to show a unique place of it among other grammar books because of its poetry-style method.
