Abstract (EN)

In this study, the genus Tulipa L. in Turkey is revised by using morphological, palynological and cytotaxonomical data. Approximately 1000 fresh and 2000 herbarium specimens belonging to the genus have been examined. In the morphological studies, two systems have been applied for evaluation of the taxa and compared: traditional taxonomy and numerical taxonomy.After detailed analysis of the taxa, the genus Tulipa in Turkey is represented by 17 species, 1 subspecies and 1 variety (19 taxa). The genus is divided into two subgenera: Eriostemones and Tulipa which were previously used as sections by Marais in ?Flora of Turkey?. The subgenus Eriostemones is divided into five sections adding two new sections: Sylvestres, Orphanideae sect. nov., Humiles sect. nov., Saxatiles, Biflores. The other subgenus Tulipa is divided into two sections: Tulipa and Clusianae. In section Sylvestres, T. sylvestris is seperated into two subspecies: subsp. sylvestris and subsp. australis. In section Orphanideae, T. karamanica is reduced to synonym of T. cinnabarina. In section Humiles, T. pulchella is increased to species status which was formerly assigned as a synonym of T. humilis. Within section Biflores, a new species, T. koyuncui is described. In section Tulipa, T. armena var. lycica is reduced to synonym of T. armena. However, T. armena is divided into two varieties: var. armena and var. galatica. Also, T. gumusanica is reduced to synonym of T. armena var. galatica. A new determination key, detailed descriptions, synonyms and typifications of taxa, features of distribution, habitat, locality and conservation status of all taxa are given.
