Meaning analysis of adjectives in turkish dictionaries

At the present time, presentation of constantly increasing information in an effective way to individuals is one of the major problems of educators. Educators tended to variety works to make teaching of knowledge, which is thought to be increased and complex, easier and eliminate the complexity. This attitude brought about the notion of "Concept Maps".It is essential to use new techniques in education and teaching. These techniques are used to improve the quality in education and science. Concept maps are one of these techniques.Beside novelty, it is a significant point to achive meaningful learning as well.The information which is not constructed meaningfully is forgotten in a period of time.One of the most effective and productive methods which provide meaningful and permanent learning is concept maps.They are visual methods which have a wide area of usage.The purpose of this study is to present the subtleties of meaning that morphemes carry and attribute in dictionaries.The aim of the thesis is to make scientific meaning analysis of adjectives in Turkish and to present collected data with tables.The other aim is to present in detail semantic relationship of adjectives which have a wide place in Turkish language,by the way of Concept Maps.Besides, the other purpose is to add a new dimension to linguistic studies by assessing and analysing the collected data.This method has not been studied in detail before in the area of linguistics.It will not only create a new study field for this study but also it will be the one by touching on insufficiency in the field of linguistics which is suitable to carry out although it is used in some areas.In the study, the adjectives which are in Turkish dictionaries of Turkish Linguistic Society were gathered.Their semantic relationship was assessed and classified.At this point scientific tables of meaning were formed.Concept maps were formed with these tables.On these tables,the semantic parts of adjectives that crossed one another and semantic points that differ one another were showed clearly.Finally the tables were interpreted and analysed.There are differences between concept maps and traditional teaching method.This research,in the light of differences,had a different point of view about `?adjectives??in the field of linguistics.This point of view and visual knowledge that occured with concept maps will light the way for studies which will be done in that field.Key words: Concept, Concept Maps, Adjectives, Meaningful Learning, Linguistics.
