Turgut Özal's foreign policy approach in the Middle East wars(In the context of the Iran-Iraq and first gulf wars)

One of the periods of significant change in Turkish foreign policy occurred between 1983 and 1993, when Özal served as Prime Minister and President. This period marked the end of the Cold War globally, and from the 1990s onward, a period of evolution from a bipolar world system to a unipolar one. In the Middle East, two major wars occurred during this period: the Iran-Iraq War and the First Gulf War. The first part of this thesis, which will compare the foreign policy of Turkey under Özal during these two wars, begins with Özal's biography and briefly discusses his education, professional life, and understanding of government. The second part of the thesis examines the causes, process, and consequences of the Iran-Iraq War. The third part of the thesis examines the causes, process, and post-war developments of another crisis, the First Gulf War. The final section of the thesis, and the fourth section, which constitutes its subject, examines the policies of Özal's Turkey during the Iran-Iraq War and the First Gulf War, and attempts to compare these policies. Articles, books, theses, and newspapers were used in the thesis.
