Abstract (EN)
Language is the most significant element forming the basic basements of communication, and human beings have tried to use language actively in many fields such as education, trade, health, social relations, tourism from past to present; however, in our globalised life axis, a common language is needed all over the world due to the advanced increase in human population. Even if this common language has arisen from the different needs of individuals and the situation of countries, today English is regarded as the world language and used as the language of education in the programmes of many educational institutions. Tourism faculties have also actively integrated English courses in many of their departments in order to provide employment in national and international service range. It has become the most important skill courses of tourism guidance departments. The main purpose of this study is to make a descriptive analysis of several textbooks used for students in foreign language education in English in tourism faculties. In this study, the advantages and disadvantages of using textbooks in language teaching as well as the acceptability of English textbooks for this purpose will be analysed. Within the scope of the study; books such as "New Total English", "Speakout English-Integrated Skills, "Tourism 2" are discussed as textbooks used in English language teaching in some departments of tourism faculties. Within the scope of the study, these works were interpreted by descriptive analysis method. As a result of the study, it was found that these works provide positive feedback for students studying in tourism faculties in terms of both professional and language development, students successfully developed the four skills necessary for language development and acquired the necessary professional vocabulary in the target language. Finally, it is hoped that this study will be more attentive in the selection of resource textbooks in foreign language education and will be more effective in activities to support students' language development.
