Abstract (EN)

There has been a sense of pressures between staff and work colleagues in the work place for many years, however this psychological mobbing has increased as a result of the increased pressures people face both in business and life in general and this issue is now one of the most important problems which businesses face. People who have established a high level of self efficacy in their job ability may have a stronger resistance to this mobbing. The purpose of this thesis is to examine the relationship between mobbing and self efficacy amongst staff in the hospitality industry. This study consists of three main parts. Firstly it will look at self efficacy, secondly it will look at mobbing, thirdly it will set out methodology, results, conclusion and advice.A three chapter questionnaire has been used to collect data. The sample for the questionnaire comprised fıve 5 star hotels and three 4 star hotels in Turkish Republic of North Cyprus (TRNC). The questionnaire was distributed to 500 staff of which 311 replied. Of the 311 replies, 304 were of a quality which could be used for this thesis. The first paragraph of the questionnaire examined the demographic make up of the interviewees. The second paragraph was based on the questionnire form set out in the Leymann Inventory of Psychological Terrorization (LIPT) and the third paragraph uses the self efficacy scale developed by Jerusalem and Schwarzer to examıne the level of self effıcacy of the interviewees. The results of the replies shows that in general more than half of the interviewees were subjected to mobbing at work however their appeared to be a negative but weak relationship between mobbing and self efficacy. Keywords: Mobbing, psychological violence, self efficacy, tourism, hotel
