A systematic literature analysis of academic publications in the context of tourism and foreign language

In the age of rapidly advancing communication and technology, foreign language knowledge and skills have an extremely important place. Foreign language skills, which enable intercultural communication, have gained importance in almost every field and sector. One of them is the tourism sector. Tourism and language skills are two inseparable elements. Because the quality of service that brings tourism to the fore is directly related to language skills. It is possible with language skills to establish healthy communication with the tourists visiting our country, to introduce the cultural heritage of our country well and to keep tourist satisfaction at the highest level on this occasion. Due to this connection between tourism and foreign language skills, foreign language education in tourism faculties and schools gains importance. For this reason, various types of research have been carried out by many academicians from past to present on tourism-oriented foreign language education. In this context, our study aims to make a systematic literature analysis of academic studies on foreign languages and tourism since 2000. Thus, the rates of the studies carried out in this context according to the years, the subjects, the title information, the author information and the results obtained were discussed, and as a result, the contributions of these studies to the academy and the sector were examined. As a result of searching the keywords in Google Scholar, DergiPark and Council of Higher Education Thesis Center, a total of 53 academic studies, including 35 articles, 13 theses, 2 papers, 1 doctoral thesis, 1 speciality thesis and 1 book chapter, were reached. These studies were analyzed using the systematic literature analysis method and reported using the PRISMA flowchart. As a result of the study, it has been indicated that the research on the context of tourism and foreign languages have increased in recent years, mostly articles are included, the languages that are the subject of the most research are English and German, and the studies are mostly conducted with university students.
