The institutionalization of institutionalization in Turkish family: Case of Çanakkale province

Institutionalizations of family corporations which are seen as dominant organization forms show tendency to increase day by day. However it?s not defined literally which properties of institutional context affect this increasing institutionalization tendency and which environmental factors have an effect on developing the necessity of institutionalization. The aim of this study is to determine environmental the environmental context that causes the necessity of institutionalization in family corporations. In other words, does the institutionalization of family corporations occur in order to increase the efficiency and motivation, coordinate with technical environment for reasons such as providing professionalism? Or else, does it occur due to the effects such as competitors, customers, consumers, uncertainties, governmental institutions and normative, coercive, mimetic isomorphism? The contribution of this study is to discuss whether the tendency of institutionalization in family corporations arise from technical environment or institutional environment in Turkish Business System which has extensive institutional pressure. The most important theoretic contribution of this study is demonstrating that institutional context has an important role in developing the institutionalization in family corporations. When considered from this point of view, it can be said that it makes theoretic contribution that has never been done in Turkey until now. The practical contribution of this study is important for institutionalization of family corporations to annihilate the insistent pressure of legal regulations, uncertainties in Turkey and get legality. On the other side, whether the non-profit organizations, trade associations and universities do their part effectively for family corporations to institutionalize should be discussed. For following studies it is strongly suggested that the researches should focus on the effects of institutional pressures in details.
