October War in Turkish press (6th-25th October 1973)

The desire of the Jews to return to the Promised Land triggered the Arab-Israeli conflict and this constant fight has continued for many years. This rivalry, which reached its peak with the establishment of Israel, also manifested itself in wars fought between Arabs and Israelis. The October War, the fourth of these wars, differs from the other Arab-Israeli wars because it started with the unexpected attack of the Arabs on Israel. The war, which started on 6 October 1973 between the Arab states of Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon and Israel, was also covered in the Turkish press. Both sides of the war expressed accusations against each other, with Israel claiming that the Arab states had instigated the war and the Arabs claiming that Israel had instigated the war. The Turkish press and the Turkish government also sided with the Arabs in this war. Turkish correspondents travelled to the battlefield and reported the battle there in their columns. In this research, the causes, development, the end of the war and its consequences of the October War were examined within the framework of the issues of the aforementioned newspapers published between 6-29 October 1973. In addition, the situation of Turkey during the war and its political activities were also analyzed.
