Turkish criminal law and forced marriage

Forced marriage is a common practice all over the world and especially in societies where traditional structure predominates, such as Turkey. This practice is in many ways a human rights issue. Forced marriage is regulated as a crime in some countries, as stipulated by international conventions. Currently, there is no criminal law regulation regarding forced marriage in Turkey. However, the social problems described clearly point to this need. Although the problems cannot be solved completely with only one crime type regulation, it is clear that this crime will be an important protective mechanism and it is necessary. This study proposes a specific article incriminating forced mariage as a separate crime in all its aspects in Turkey.
