Euthanasia in Turkish criminal law

In this study, the concept of euthanasia, the topic which is being analysed in professions such as law, philosopy and medicine and creating debates in every profession that's been disccussed, is emphasized . Euthanasia is being accepted by a daily growing population who demands euthanasia to be recognised as a right. With technological developments and reflections of these in he field of medicine, new diseases and treatments for these diseases are discovered day by day, thus extending the human lifespan.Deaths due to previously unknown diseases are eing replaced by treatment processes everyday, and in some of these treatment processes a painful period awaits patients before recovery.On the other hand, no matter how much progress is made in medicine field, death continues to exist as a fact of humanity, and treatments for some diseases are limited to results such as stopping or slowing the progression of the disease, instead of providing recovery, and these diseases inevitably result in death even if the end is delayed by painful processes. Euthanasia is usually demanded by people or relatives of people who are struggling with incurable diseases or treatment processes of painful diseases even if they can be treated, due to their suffering. This cycle is one of the main reasons that increase the interest in euthanasia day by day.While some states around the world accept these demands, and allow euthanasia or similar practices, most states rejects these demands and ban euthanasia, for various reasons. In this study, after considering euthanasia with its conceptual dimension, we examined the phylosophical debates on euthanaisa, euthanasia in history, and rigths related to euthanasia. Then, we examined euthanasia practises in legal systems around the world. Finally, by examining Turkish legal system,we analyzed how euthanasia is located in our constitutional, administrative and especially crimimal law.
