The position of the organization of Turkic states on the Russian-Ukrainian war

Following the dissolution of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) in 1991, countries that gained their independence opted for independent political spheres, while others sought close ties with Western institutions and organizations. Ukraine, one of the countries particularly eager to establish close ties with Western institutions and organizations, has strengthened its ties with the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). This situation was considered a red line by Russia, and for reasons rooted in historical circumstances, it annexed Crimea, a Ukrainian territory, in 2014. Despite this situation, Ukraine maintained its ties with Western institutions and organizations and continued to strive for membership in both the EU and NATO. The conflict, which ignited in 2014, escalated into a Russo-Ukrainian war on February 24, 2022, and had significant regional and global repercussions. It also appears that the Central Asian countries, which Russia calls its immediate neighborhood, are being affected by this process in economic, military, and political terms. The fact that these countries, which are undergoing a new integration process and are members of the Organization of Turkic States (TOC), which many consider Russia's immediate neighborhood, makes it crucial to address this issue within the scope of TOC. This study is based on the position of TCT member countries regarding Russia's ongoing war with Ukraine, their political stances, and the potential future developments. Therefore, the study aims to focus on the political stances of TCT member countries, as well as the impact of the Russia-Ukraine War on their own countries. Votes in the UN General Assembly and the Human Rights Council are also examined.
