Betrayal in the legends of Turkish world

In this thesis titled Betrayal in Turkish World Legends, the meaning of betrayal as a concept and phenomenon and how it is handled as a practice in Turkish legends are analysed. The aim of the study is to examine the concept of betrayal in Turkish legends and the underlying reasons, to reveal the consequences of betrayal, to look at social and individual values from the framework of betrayal. In addition, based on the concrete reflections in Turkish legends, it is to contribute to the Turkish folklore literature in the focus of betrayal. The unique aspect of the study is that there has not been a thesis on betrayal in Turkish literature and Turkish folklore literature before. The fact that the definition and classification sections of this study will be a source for future studies is another original aspect. The study consists of six chapters. In the introduction section, the purpose, population and sample, importance, method and method, and limitations of the study are explained. In the second part of the study, there is general information about the Turkish world and Turkish world literatures. The third part of the study focuses on the characteristics of the legend as a literary genre. Information about the definition of legend, its limitations as a genre, its classification, its relationship with other folk narratives and its sociological function is given. The fourth chapter focuses on the etymology of betrayal as a word and concept. The dynamics in the formation of the etymology of betrayal are discussed. The fifth chapter is one of the main chapters of the study. This chapter focuses on the phenomenon of betrayal in the legends of the Turkic world. In this chapter, the texts of the legends of the Turkic world, which are included in the literature and compiled, were scanned by document analysis method and a classification was made for the concept of betrayal in legends. Individual and social dimensions of betrayal are analysed under sub-headings. In the same section, a classification was also made on the existence of betrayers (traitor types). The causes and consequences of betrayal in Turkish legends have been determined. The data obtained in this section are presented in a general framework with tables and figures. In the conclusion section, it is tried to determine the place of betrayal as a phenomenon and practice in Turkish legends by making use of the data obtained in the previous sections. In addition, the effect of the phenomenon of betrayal in revealing the similarities and distinctive aspects of Turkish states and communities has been expressed.
