Özet (EN)

Calligraphy whose origin is from Arabic Language means ?narrow, long right way, a line wihch is formed by many poitns getting together, the things looks like line and writing? in dictionary. It is known that page designs in Turkish Calligraphy art is formed from aesthetical value and composition. This knowledge is transferred from genetration to generation by master-commander relation and comes to nowadays.The aim of this research is to examine masterpieces of Turkish Calligraphy Art in its development stage in the view of today?s principles of graphic design. According to this aim, it is tried to show similarities and differences between Turkish Calligraphy art and principles of graphic design. Research is designed to researching method. In research, document and artwork researching in quality research techniques were used.Examining development stages of history of Turkish Calligraphy Art, it is understood that the calligraphy artists who had seen wtiring as an art branch have effects on grid system which is known as an important component of principles of today?s graphic art.Within the period from starting of Turkish Calligraphy Art to its end, Calligraphy artists transferred their knowledge from generation to generation. İdea movement in page design followed similar development path. Calligraphy artists also used religious and moral sentences with page design, and brought it as a kind of art.In the development stage of calligraphy, preparing of paper (grid systems), making ornaments to pages after writing in order to increase visual effect and covering properties show that page design stage is performed under knowledge, experiment, attention and aesthetic manner. This shows that there are groups which are occupated for ornament, covering and writing.It is understood that in page design, principles of today?s graphic design has similar rules like anathomy of letters, meaning of used text and its place in page design. They reached new and different designs at the end of this duration. This duration is also followed by today?s graphic designers. According to results, it may be suggested that new researches on starting or origins of Turkish Calligraphy may be performed. Turkish Calligraphy Art may be used to educate as an educational device for teaching principles of today?s graphic design.Key Words: Turkish Calligraphy Art, Graphic Design, Page Design, Grid.
