Detection of Covid-19 effects by ratio analysis in the Turkish manufacturing sector

The primary aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 on the manufacturing sector in Turkey. Initially, the outbreak process of the pandemic, its effects on Turkey and the world, management strategies, and its human, social, and global impacts have been theoretically examined. Subsequently, the economic repercussions of COVID-19 have been assessed. In this context, the effects on both the global and Turkish economies, economic support packages, employment and working conditions, impacts on small and medium-sized enterprises, financial reports of various sectors, banking, and income distribution have been analyzed. The effects of COVID-19 on accounting and financial statements in Turkey have been examined. Financial statements before and after the pandemic have been reviewed to assess the post-pandemic impact. The economic effects of COVID-19 on sectors contributing to Turkey's economy have been analyzed, with a particular focus on industries such as manufacturing, energy, mining, healthcare, and education. Additionally, the macro and microeconomic consequences of the pandemic have been evaluated. The financial performance of Turkey's manufacturing sector has been analyzed by comparing balance sheets and income statements from 2018 to 2023 using ratio analysis based on Central Bank data. Similarly, the financial statements of manufacturing firms listed on Borsa Istanbul (BIST) have been individually examined and analyzed using ratio analysis. Furthermore, an overall evaluation of all manufacturing firms in Turkey has been conducted based on Central Bank data. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of the impact of COVID-19 on the manufacturing sector in Turkey. The outbreak process, its global and national economic implications, labor market effects, and management strategies have been detailed. The research specifically focuses on the manufacturing sector, a critical component of Turkey's economy, assessing its financial status during the crisis period. Within the scope of this research, the financial performance of manufacturing firms in Turkey has been evaluated through various methods. Using data from the Central Bank and Borsa Istanbul (BIST), ratio analysis has been conducted to compare financial statements over the years. These analyses have quantitatively demonstrated the effects of the pandemic on the sector and examined changes in the financial structures of businesses. Additionally, the study explores the impact of COVID-19 on other key sectors of the Turkish economy. Economic changes in industries such as manufacturing, energy, mining, healthcare, and education have been assessed, and the macro and microeconomic consequences of the pandemic have been analyzed. This study aims to shed light on the transformation of the manufacturing sector during the COVID-19 period and potential future economic scenarios it may encounter.
