The struggle for independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan according to Turkish and British press (1918-1920)

1917 Bolshevik Revolution, together with the Caucasus nation has entered the continued independence. Azerbaijani Turks also declared their independence on May 28 1918, during this period. The Ottoman Empire was its greatest supporter, both militarily and politically in the process of gaining independence. The attempts of the Bolsheviks to establish domination in the region through the Baku Soviet were prevented with the support of the Ottoman Empire. The Caucasian Islamic Army under the command of Nuri Pasha liberated Baku on 15 September 1918. But this operation progressed under the intrusive activities of Germany, an ally of the Ottoman State, Britain and the Bolsheviks, who tried to protect their colonial ways. In this study, the independence process of Azerbaijan until the Bolshevik invasion of April 1920 will be discussed by considering international relations. From an international perspective, the developments of the period will be evaluated in the light of the Turkish and British press. Azerbaijan, the Caucasus has obtained a great success as the Baku military and political operations of the Army of Islam. However, a new era started in Azerbaijan with the withdrawal of the Ottoman State from the Caucasus in accordance with the conditions of the Mondros Armistice. Germany has lost its influence in the region by taking part in the defeated states. Tsarist generals sought domination with the support of the allies in Russia. Under these circumstances, in November 1918, the British arrived in Baku to restore order and order on behalf of the allies. Britain did not intervene in the political activities of the Azerbaijani government, considering the Paris Peace Conference. However, they benefited from the economic resources of the region for her own interests. Pro-Tsarist General Denikin was trying to prevent the spread of Bolshevism supported at the same time. The news reflected in the British press has been very useful for our study, considering the active politics of Britain in both the Caucasus and Russia. The Azerbaijan government fought for recognition of their independence at the Paris Peace Conference, while Britain's activities in the region continued. In January 1920, with the Bolsheviks increasing their power, the Allies recognized the independence of Azerbaijan. Although a great political success was achieved, increasingly powerful Soviet Russia invaded Azerbaijan on April 26, 1920.
