The changing social role of women in Turkish modernization

We can see that there isn?t enough research and source about the topic related to woman, when we want to search something about woman?s social role in Turkish society.I hope, this research that I have presented as a postgraduate thesis will contribute to the database which is in the field of woman researches in Turkish society, will help to appear the changing social role of woman in Turkish modernization history and woman?s movements in Ottoman Society and finally, it will illuminate the effect in the republic process.Freedom and equality ideas which spread after the French Revolution in 1789 and Turkish women?s wish to join the reaching and using process of social responsibility tools influenced from new social organization which were formed by these new ideas were perceived simultaneously and accepted in the Ottoman Turkish Society. This changing, like in the whole world, effected Turkish Society simultaneously, and trigged the many changes that would start both as an individual and social-based.The changing social role of women in Turkish modernization process is examined in three parts. In the first part, it has been examined in the angle of individual and social role of Turkish woman, the examples of living and reflecting of sense of social responsibility in epics and Turkish legends; role of the woman in the social life in Ottoman society, family, education and position of work life.In the second part, it has been mentioned about the magazines and associations that formed by the women intellectuals in the name of informing the other women and uniting them as an illumination of the changing social role of women at Ottoman period. Besides, an association which was built for including women into the work life at Ottoman period has been examined in detail. In modernization period, Turkish women perceived deeply the new key words of social responsibility `equality, right and justice? and to make them conscious even in this way, to take a place before West, source of this action, they had a great effort and achieved it.In the third part, the period of enjoying the result of efforts of Turkish women that spent before has been displayed. Namely, the topic like proclamation of the republic, rights given to women ? right to vote and chosen, enter the work life directly- Atatürk?s view about Turkish women has been examined in here. Additionally, in this period there are many works done by Turkish women and entering to assembly of them.This study allows following the social behaviour view of women who are on the stage of history and at the same time it allows to comprehend the frame of women and actions around the `freedom? view; explains the sociological meaning of the changing social role of Turkish women based on woman?s movements? evolution and changing.Keywodrs : Change, Right, Modernızatıon, Role, Turkish Women.
