A sage in the modernization perception of Turkish conservatizm: Ömer Ferid Kam (1864-1944)

The fact that Islamists remained passive in the face of secular practices brought conservatism to the fore. Islamists, who found modernization attractive, began to express themselves in conservative thought. for this reason, it led to the diversification of his conservatism. One of the leading figures of Turkish conservatism who has always been able to put forward different paradigms than his contemporaries is Ömer Ferid Kam. His diagnoses of Turkish conservatism have also influenced other intellectuals. II. Kam, one of the witnesses of the constitutional era, has given a modern perspective to Turkish conservatism with his comments. during the classical period of the Turkish Revolution, Kam tried to mix modern values, traditions and beliefs with each other. On the one hand, he thought it was necessary to reach the modern tools necessary for development. On the other hand, he opposed the transfer of culture while modernizing. The existence of the state in Kam's mind world depends on the totality of values from the past. He severed his connection with history and stated that both states and nations would disappear completely. In his writings, Kam has often made references to the fact that religious beliefs are at the beginning of the main dynamics that guide culture. He also noted that the aspirations of athestic nations to live and progress are taking a fragile course. He considered religion to be the driving force of modernization. He put forward the thesis that assimilated heavenly religions, in particular Islam, are aimed at striving to advance individuals and societies.
