Abstract (EN)
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the roots of the problems that Turkish Opera faces with. The main reason behind these problems emerges from the structure of the opera audiences in Turkey First thing to do is to summarize Turkish Opera From the start-point to date. This summery may help the reader see the social aspects of the subject and will also give information about all the important works and composers. In this respect, the birth and development of Opera were analyzed. Following that, reader will have a wide look at the Western Opera and finally, in order to see the entrance of the opera in Turkey, some individual opera works in during the Ottoman age were summarized. But since the start ?point of ?Turkish Opera? is generally accepted as the foundation of Turkish Republic, this work concentrate on opera-music of republic era. Opera was an art that only nobles, intellectuals and classical musicians enjoyed widely. But it reached to all the people after a set of transformations and revolutions. From this point, it can be accepted that those revolutions and efforts of leading composers and nations to reach all the people is an important issue to deal with. As widely known, musical revolution advanced parallel with Atatürk?s revolutions in other aspects. According to Atatürk, of all those revolutions musical revolution has the highest importance. For him, music is the most effective and transparent way for a nation to reflect its culture and development. ?If a nation can accept the transformation in music, it can easily accept the transformation in all other aspects? says Atatürk. II This work indicates that Turkish Opera which received countless valuable Works, admirable foresight and lust for art is not in a situation it deserves. Turkish Opera is very likely to re-emerge with only sustainable, systematic and realistic efforts.
